Allison’s innovative, fully automatic 9-Speed transmission, for medium- and heavy-duty vehicles, will be the main feature at the Brisbane Truck Show. This transmission, previously revealed at the IAA Commercial Vehicle Show in Hannover, Germany and at the North American Commercial Vehicles Show in Atlanta, is targeted for global release by 2022. A model of the new Allison 9-Speed will be on display at the Allison booth at the Brisbane Show along with cutaway models of the Allison 3000 and 4000 series transmissions.
“With the new 9-Speed transmission, Allison continues to demonstrate its commitment to help achieve standards regarding fuel efficiency and emissions,” said Randy Kirk, senior vice president of product engineering and program management with Allison Transmission. With its industry-leading ratio coverage and Allison fuel-saving technologies such as FuelSense® 2.0, xFE, and Dynactive Shifting, the Allison 9-Speed transmission provides significant fuel savings. Other exciting features include higher engine and GCW ratings, optimized skip shifting, lifetime filter, integral cooler, input retarder, and integrated engine stop-start system with vehicle hold. The 9-speed provides value for a variety of applications including distribution trucks, rental and lease trucks, school buses, specialty trucks, and defense vehicles.
The Allison 9-Speed model leverages the proven durability of the Allison 2000 Series™ six-speed commercial transmissions, which have accumulated well over 100 billion miles globally. It’s been designed to utilize the same vehicle and engine interfaces as its six-speed predecessor, providing ease of integration into vehicles currently released with the Allison 2000 Series. Drivers will experience even better comfort due to smaller range steps, allowing for a smoother start. They’ll also enjoy improved acceleration, which can lead to more productivity.
Allison transmissions use a torque converter for Continuous Power Technology™ to smoothly deliver more power to the wheels. Unlike manual and automated manual transmissions (AMTs), Allison fully automatic transmissions maintain power to the wheels at all times providing improved productivity, better fuel economy, and greater driver comfort and safety. Allison transmissions are also recognized globally for their quality and reliability, and a greater overall economic value. This is demonstrated by the higher residual value that accompanies an Allison-equipped vehicle, as compared to a vehicle equipped with a manual, AMT, or dual-clutch transmission (DCT). Attendees will also find a wide variety of Allison-equipped vehicles on display from Fuso, Hino, Isuzu, Iveco, UD Trucks, Daimler, Freightliner, Kenworth and Western Star.
