The need for proactive driver assistance systems has never been greater, with 41% of HGV collisions attributed to driver error. Key factors contributing to these errors include inattention, distraction and fatigue.
Studies show that reaction times can be up to 57% slower when drivers are distracted by devices such as mobile phones or infotainment systems. Additionally, drivers with less than four hours of sleep are 15 times more likely to be responsible for a collision.
Regulation (EU), 2019/2144 states that it is mandatory for all newly manufactured and existing vehicle models to be fitted with additional safety systems as part of the General Safety Regulation (GSR). This includes (DDAW) systems which monitor driver’s alert levels and provides an in-cab warning if required.
